Who needs a professional headshot?

In this social media saturated society, who doesn’t? Have you ever thought about how a headshot can shape the way people perceive you, even before they actually meet you in person. What does your profile pic say about you? Does it say, "I'm trustworthy, confident, easy to approach. I'm someone who can get the job done?"

What if I hate having my photo taken?

It is my job to guide and pose you to flatter your person & personality. You may prefer an individual session where you’ll have privacy and we’ll have plenty of time to relax and have fun.

Can you shoot at my office?

Yes. I have a portable studio that I travel with. I can set up in various places including office kitchens or storage spaces. Before your session I will visit your location to discuss with you the possibilities.

Do you shoot outdoors?

Yes, I have several years of experience shooting outdoors. Please check out my Lifestyle Portfolio which includes environmental images.

Do you have a makeup artist/ hairstylist available?

Though they are not available on site, I do encourage woman to have their makeup done professionally. Ladies, you will find more makeup and hair tips at the bottom of my What to Wear page.


Will you retouch my image

Corporate Events include a basic retouching that includes color balancing, stray hair and blemish removal. Custom retouching is available at an additional charge.

Individual and Professional Group images include a custom retouching that starts with the basic retouching. But will go beyond, if needed, including softening of wrinkles, the smoothing of contrary clothing and hair, fixing the roots of colored hair, etc.


What is the difference between a business portrait and a headshot?

A business portrait is a vertical image that shows the chest and maybe your hands. A headshot emphasizes your face and expression. Only the top of the shoulders are showing and the top of the head is slightly cropped. This is usually a horizontal image. (See images at right.)

Headshots are becoming more and more popular in the business world. They are necessary for actors, actresses and models.


What color of backgrounds can I choose from?

The medium grey is my signature background and the one I will usually recommend for business portraits. White is good for headshots as well. I can also do black but only for Individual and Professional Group sessions.  I do not use any patterned backgrounds as they more quickly date your images and can be difficult to match when it comes to new hires. 

How long does a session take?

Individual sessions run up to 1 -1½ hours.
Professional Group sessions up to 15 mins per person.
Corporate Events around 8 mins per person.

Do I get to choose my final image?

During Individual and Professional Group sessions you are heavily involved in the decision making.

Corporate Event images are chosen carefully by the photographer.

What should I wear?

Proper attire depends on your career or the one you are seeking. Just like an interview, you want to dress a notch better than you do for everyday work. Clothing should be simple, clean and wrinkle free. Solid, mid to dark colors are encouraged.  Please read more about it on my What to Wear page.  Trying to stay within these guideline, while choosing something you are comfortable and relaxed wearing, will make for an image you will be pleased with.

Is there a better time if day for my session?

I find that morning are the best as you are your freshest but I can shoot in the afternoon as well. If the session is to be held outdoors early mornings or a couple of hours before sunset is best. Some outdoor locations allow for mid-day sessions.

Are your photos in color or black and white?

All images are in color but, on request, I will convert them to black and white at no additional charge.

How much does a headshot/business portrait cost?

The better question is how much it will cost you if you don’t have a professional headshot. The decision to pay attention to your profile, or not, is made in a fraction of a second. Future employers, clients, & customers may pass you by simply because your image wasn’t speaking to them about your professionalism and self-confidence. A professional image will stand out in the ever increasing crowd of selfies.

Do you offer group discounts?

Consistent images of your entire team can be a powerful marketing tool. I have two types of group sessions: Professional Group and Corporate Event. The more people, the greater the discount. Check out my Invest in Yourself page for complete pricing.

Do you have a return client discount?

Any individual client who returns for a fresh new look will receive 15% off any future individual session for themself.

Any company that has had a professional group session will receive 15% off future individual or professional group sessions.  This applies to updating sessions or new hires.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Checks, credit/debit cards and cash (exact change only).

What is your payment schedule?

For Individual sessions, a retainer of $100 is due when you book. The balance is due when you arrive at my studio.

For Professional Group and Corporate Events sessions, a retainer equal to 50% of your session fee is due when you book.  The balance is due when I arrive for the session. 


What is your refund policy

At the time the contract takes effect,  I will reserve the date and time agreed upon, and will not make any other reservations or accept any other clients for said date and time. For this reason, in the event that you cancel the contract for any reason, the retainer is not refunded in order to offset its loss of business.

For Individual sessions, if you reschedule your appointment 48 hours before your session time there will be no extra charge. If the appointment is rescheduled within 2-48 hours before the session, a non-refundable rescheduling fee of $50 may apply at my discretion. If I'm not contacted at least 2 hours prior to session the retainer is not refunded and a new $100 non-refundable retainer will be required to reschedule.

For Professional Group and Corporate Events sessions, the refund and rescheduling policy will be per contract.


How long before I receive my image?

Individual images usually take less than a week. Group sessions may take longer depending on the number of images.

How do I receive my image?

The usual way is via a gallery on my website from where you can download your image(s). If you prefer a different method I can accommodate.

Will I own the copyright to my image?

Many people are confused about the differences between copyrights and licensing. The contract stipulates that the photographer retains the copyright and client receives a license that allows them to use the image for their own business or personal use.

For most licenses that I utilize, you will receive full size files that can be printed or used digitally. The client does not have the right to give or sell their image to someone or some company unless it's for the purpose of promoting the photographed client.

If you chose to purchase a Print product it cannot be scanned or reproduced in anyway. Images the photographer posts on Facebook can be downloaded and use digitally only.

In return, the contract also stipulates that the client is giving the photographer permission to use their likeness for the photographer's marketing purposes as outlined in the contract.

The photographer, since they still own the copyright, has the right to give or sell the copyright or a license to others BUT only if they have your written permission to do so.

Simply put, the photographer owns the copyright to all images. You own your face. Therefore neither of us can do anything with the image without the other person’s permission.

Where are you located?

Lake Bloomington just a short drive 10 minutes north of Normal. Remember I can come to you if you wish.


Do you charge for travel?

For Individual sessions there is a price difference between in studio and on location sessions.  Check out my Invest in Yourself page for pricing.

For Professional Group and Cooperate Event sessions there may be a travel charge if the drive is more than 45 mins one way.


Are you insured?

Yes. I’m insured by Country Financial. If you are a business I can provide you with proof of insurance immediately. A certificate of insurance with your business and location information can be provided on request after hiring. It will take a few days for Country to process this, so as much notice as possible is appreciated.

I need something a little more complex than a headshot for my marketing needs. Can you help?

In addition to headshots and business portraits, I do group portraits. I will also photograph your commercial space and employees at work, as well as, photography your products. If your marketing needs are more involved and require something more than a simple headshot I would be happy to discuss the details with you.
